Canine Companions: Meet Snowflake and Maya
April 12, 2024
At Jefferson Healthcare Center, two furry ambassadors of joy and comfort, Snowflake and Maya, bring smiles to residents, visitors, and staff every day. Snowflake, a one-year-old Shih-Poo, and Maya, a two-year-old Newfypoo, each have their designated days to spread happiness. Snowflake brightens weekdays, while Maya takes over on weekends. Snowflake’s boundless affection knows no bounds, eagerly wagging her tail for everyone she meets. Maya, on the other hand, gravitates towards residents, offering companionship by their sides.
Studies have shown that interactions with therapy animals like Snowflake and Maya can reduce feelings of loneliness and anxiety, promote relaxation, and even lower blood pressure. Their presence fosters a sense of connection and warmth, reminiscent of home. As they weave through the halls and greet everyone with wagging tails and gentle affection, Snowflake and Maya remind us all of the simple joys and unconditional love that brighten our days.
